The test winners this time were the leggings from Betabrand, Casall, and Beyond which fit perfectly on all models. Nothing slips and pinches during the yoga practice and in terms of design, print fans will find it just as much as people who like it simple. The leggings from Casall provide a rather strong hold, while the yoga pants from Beyond impress with their ultra-soft fabric.
Otherwise, we liked the yoga pants from Hey Honey and Pitaya for the fancy prints, Studio Kolektif and Yoiqi for the soft cotton, Girlfriend Collective and OY Surf * for the simple, classy design.
Comfortable fit and sensible cut
We prefer long leggings (instead of 7/8 leggings) with a high, wide waistband ( high waist ), which lies softly on the waist, prevents underpants flashing, and does not constrict.
The favorites are the pants from Hey Honey, The it yoga fashion label from Hamburg. It is not without reason that you see it on so many yogis in the studio, on the street, and social media. The leggings have a nice high waistband that packs well – nothing slips or pinches. I’m also a big fan of the yoga pants from Girlfriend Collective , Beyond and Oy Surf *. They pack super well and stay in place even when wrapped up.
If you like it a little softer and prefer natural materials, you are well advised to go with the label Studio Kolektif from Bali or with Mandala *. We especially like the cut with a slightly flared leg. If you’re going to be local, take a closer look at Yoiqi ‘s High Waist Leggings *.
Comfortable material
There are different tastes in terms of materials: Some prefer natural fibers, so they find good old cotton jersey best. If you belong to this group, check out the organic cotton leggings from Yoiqi, as well as from Studio Kolektif and Mandala. Personally, I prefer to wear cotton for calmer types of yoga or after yoga, when I really want to feel like I’m walking on clouds.
Pitaya Yoga, one of our all-time favorite yoga brands, brings together cotton and bamboo with elastane in one favorite pant. The pieces with the hot designs are soft and forgiving in practice, yet stay in place and pack well. We love!
For sweaty practices, we at Team FLGH like synthetics: high-tech fabrics that are stretchy, quick-drying, and sweat-wicking. This is where Casall does particularly well. Those who like it supportive and firm are well served with Girlfriend Collective and Hey Honey. On Greenyogashop * I rediscovered the brands Norba and Beyond. During the shoot, the crew collectively threw themselves on the pieces and praised the soft material and the fit to the skies. The material of the Beyond leggings is reminiscent of the Lululemon Align, so if you’re looking for a sustainable alternative to the big yoga brand.
Opaque
The rule of thumb is the darker the fabric and the denser the material, the safer. We have had particularly good experiences with Betabrand, Pitaya and Casall. The pieces from Girlfriend Collective and Beyond also cut a bomb figure in terms of opacity in our test – even in light shades.
Diverse imagery and inclusivity
We are fed up with seeing only extremely thin, white, Cirque du Soleil bodies in the yoga world and want to actively change our and your viewing habits. Because if you surround yourself with diverse and realistic images of body types instead of soft-focus filter beings, you will be more likely to accept your own body as it looks.
We’re huge fans of the imagery of Girlfriend Collective, who make pieces up to size 6XL. Who says all yogis wear size S?! In general, during my research for the yoga pants test, I had great difficulties finding high-quality yoga clothing in large sizes that was also comfortable, looked cool and was produced sustainably. Casall, Pitaya and Oy Surf should be highlighted positively.
Most of the common labels produce up to a maximum of L or XL. In their defense, it should be said that it often doesn’t pay off for small brands to produce in large sizes. On the one hand, there is often a minimum quantity of pieces that have to be accepted during production. Brands have to be able to afford that and be sure that they can sell so many parts. That’s why they often play it safe and rely on the most common sizes that are most in demand. Still, it’s high time labels got more inclusive and scaled up their scale!
Chic design
Superficiality or not – if comfortable yoga leggings still look chic, we don’t mind! The seasonally changing all-over designs from Hey Honey are always a hit, the pitaya designs are always a real eye-catcher and Kismet and Casall also has cool prints in stock.
Lately, I’ve been a bit tired of always colorful trousers and color clash and have rediscovered my preference for plain-colored designs. It doesn’t have to be boring! Girlfriend Collective has mega colors and I also think Norba is great. Otherwise you will definitely find what you are looking for at Beyond and Oy Surf.
yoga pants for different styles
For a fluid, dynamic practice, I recommend wearing tight-fitting yoga pants or leggings that don’t get in the way when you twist your legs. The material specially developed for sports and fitness wicks away sweat well.
Bikram yoga in the hot room gets particularly sweaty, and even I think it’s a suicide mission to wear long pants. Pitaya also makes cool yoga shorts from all of their designs, which still don’t have your whole butt hanging out. We also love the bike-length pants from Onzie * and Girlfriend Collective – you can wear them outside of the yoga studio too!
Yin Yoga is a little more comfortable; we like to wear baggy trousers like the incredibly comfortable Padmini by Kismet, which is made from pleasantly airy modal. She also served Uli very well during her Vipassana course and on the journey afterward.
Larger pants are also often worn in more traditional yoga styles such as Kundalini Yoga or Hatha Yoga. Great wide yoga pants like this, which are still street-legal, are available from Kismet as well as from Yoiqi. Sheila wears hers to the office too!
What is your favorite pair of pants to wear to yoga? Which brand is missing from the list? Tell me!
